Snow weekend, again

Snow again, what a surprise? Well we were just supposed to get a dusting on Saturday as most of the storm was supposed to stay south of us, but as you can see, or not see very well in the first picture, we got it.
The weather here in northeast Wisconsin did what it often does when it gets to Lake Michigan, it swirled around and then sat here on the lakeshore pulling moisture in from the lake and dumping it on us.
I didn't mind that much, makes for a good day to stay inside. It was supposed to be done by 3 pm. Along about 9 pm it had pretty much wound down. ;-)
So what is a quilter with a sore shoulder to do? Make chili. Lots of chili.
My almost famous vegetarian chili. It's in the crock pot again today to simmer some more. It's always really good by the second day. Excellent with green onions and sour cream on top, maybe some shredded cheese and of course, a Corona. An Oktoberfest ale works just as good however!
Meanwhile, more comfort food is in order since poor Miss V got the snow day on the weekend instead of during the school week.
Macaroni and cheese. My kids love the real stuff, baked in the oven, with crumbs on top thank you. I don't bother making it for the big guy, he actually prefers the stuff in the blue box. oh well, that's okay we all have our strange tastes right?
Today dawned bright and sunny and crisp! yeah! Big guy got up right away and started plowing us out.
Then of course he threw a bolt on the tractor bucket and dumped hydraulic fluid all over the driveway and that was the end of that for a while.
Best thing to do is to bake. My go to coffee cake is the Quick Sally Lunn from my mothers favorite baking book. It's a basic coffee cake with a cinnamon streusel topping. My family's favorite and the first time I made it for my father in law he swore it was as good as his Nonny Russells. That being a top compliment.
Mom got her book when she was in high school, and when I married the big guy, she found one just like it for me. Mine says 1954 on the cover.
Well enough food stuff for today, I'm off to take some mega strength ibuprofen and try to sew. Wish me luck!

I L.O.V.E. CHILI!!!!!!

Gotta have 'bout 47 pounds of beef in it though to make me happy. That looks like a tasty batch you got simmering there though.

Um...no need to defrost the corned beef for me. I'll happily take the chili! ;) Looks delicious.

Thank you for visiting me. I am so glad - your blog is lovely. If I wasn't so darn tired from our roadtrip [oh, & watching the Oscars] I would read the whole of it tonight. It is great.

Take care. Have a great week. See you soon!

The Big Guy likes the blue box better??? So do my parents! I about died the first time I had real mac and cheese! I was like 20 years old. Never ate the blue box again. John and our tots love it home made, too. Well, there is still one kid that eats the blue box, now that I think about it. You know him, he's the one that broke my heart. TWICE!

Enough of that. How'd the sewing go Ms. Green. *throat clearing inserted here*

You are officially not allowed to mention "almost famous" veggie chili without sharing the recipe. "Dem's da rulz!"
