working in a series

Having a real design wall up has helped me come to realize that in some instances I have NO BRAIN!!
This is the worlds smallest quilt guilds very first round robin. More of a thunk robin since there were only two of us at the time so it couldn't actually go AROUND, instead going back and forth.
My first thought when I could actually see it on the wall and step away from it was.............
What the heck were we thinking? Could this be any busier?

Well, since that one looked so different up on the wall, I pulled out Thunk Robin number 2, in which we suddenly and for no good reason became obsessed with cats.
Again, what were we thinking????
hello? What you probably can't see because they are so gosh darn small are my mini mice on thunk number 2 in the center. yikes! Do I have NO TASTE at all??

Here is an actual Round Robin, since we added a third member to the group, for whatever strange reason we started ANOTHER CAT TOP!! Poor Flori, our officer in charge of coffee............she just jumped right in on the cat theme with us.
I assumed there must be an end to this madness. I know Anne's tastes are wonderful, and Flori does fabulous stuff...............
uh, it's me! I'm the reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, I don't do weird stuff with no reason. Do I?

Enter my current project.
selvages.
Again, I have to ask myself..............
WHAT WAS I THINKING????????????
these babies are tiny to sew together and I am going to curse forever the blog, which I can't remember anymore, where I saw the potholder that sucked me into this strange and horrific obsession.

I must say, I have always been fascinated with the little dots on the edges of the fabric............. and many of them have words.............
and, GASP! I found myself asking for an extra half yard the other day because cutting it at one yard would have missed the pretty part of the selvage all together.
this is wrong on soooooooooooooooooo many levels! help me someone!!!!!!!!!!! Send coffee! or Wine! or Both!!!

The quilts are lovely - if busy - but your post gave me a chuckle (from the writing).

I finally tossed my selvage collection. But I am forehead deep into the "cat" obsession.

LOL! What's with the whole selvage thing? We've always been taught to cut those off because they don't shrink right like the rest of the fabric. Yes, they can be somewhat interesting, but still . . . . Have you (or anyone else) made anything and washed it yet? Just curious if using all selvage works out well.

Wow.... I smell a bit of an an issue, sweet Mare. Regarding those selvages, I am just shaking my head...

Oh, and V looks fantastic. Make sure you tell her I said that. Also, I forgot about that cat quilt. Totally forgot and I stressed so over the whole thing. My first round robin with the entire guild. My first round robin, period. I had a stomach ache for days...

What a great post Mare! You have me giggling as I try to find those mice...they MUST be small!!
The good thing about all this is that we all have a place where we started, and lots of bumps in the road to doing better work. They do get better as you go, cats or no cats, and I can remember just about when that pieced cat was the BIG thing!! It's like a quilting history, and it's neat to see them. Take good care of you, hugs, Finn

I like the quilts busy and all. Funny what we get ourselves into. All in the name of quilting.
